Habitat
In remnant moist forest by river with Salix, Cedrela and Ceiba. Common.

Description
Medium sized tree with heavy branches and a spreading crown to 20 m ht. Bark dark grey-brown, thick and rough with deep vertical fissuring. Leaves discolorous deep bottle green and glossy above, paler mid green bgelow, the buds with a rich brown tomentum. Ripe pods, pendulous, spirally twisted, stunning bright pillar-box red, dehiscing to reveal jet black soft glossy seeds. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
