Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Igarapé Cagancho;" instead georeferenced to 1 km. east of Tucuruí Dam (Hidrelétrica de Tucuruí) in Tucuruí, Pará, in accordance with other locality descriptions. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the Tucuruí Dam along Rio Tocantins. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line starting at the beginning of the Dam, in Tucuruí, to the end of the Dam, in Breu Branco, then halved this distance to approximate the location of the geographic center of the Dam. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the geographic center of the Dam. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to find linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the Dam. To find the 1 km. east offset: input coordinates, linear extent (904.003 m.), measurement error (.001 m.), offset distance (E), offset distance (1000 m.), and distance precision (100 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Offset: Offset at a heading).
