  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. The village of Mutumparaná was deeply disturbed by the construction and implementation of the AHE Jirau (Jirau Dam) downriver from the village on Rio Maderia, which commenced in 2008 (information on the Dam can be found at www.energiasustentaveldobrasil.com.br, "Jirau Sustentabilidade Aliada Ao Desenvolvimento, Energia Sustentável do Brasil." Accessed 1/8/2014). Energia Sustentável do Brasil has created a new Mutumparaná, Nova Mutum Paraná, to relocate those residents affected by the building of UHE Jirau (http://www.energiasustentaveldobrasil.com.br/nova-mutum.asp). Due to this, unable to locate the precise location of the airstrip of Mutumparaná on Google Maps 2013 satellite imagery; instead, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the village of Mutumparaná. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the village of Mutumparaná. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the village. Because the village does not have defined spatial boundaries on Google Maps, used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the nearest named place, the village of Porto Velho, and halving that distance. Input coordinates, linear extent (3751.715 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
