  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the geographic midpoint of the unnamed road which connects the mining area of Serra dos Carajás to the area of Caldeirão in Pará, Brazil, in accordance with other locality descriptions. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the road which leads from the mining area to Caldeirão. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the start of this road (at the split in the road from mining area N-4, since only at this point may the road branching from said road be considered the road to Caldeirão) and where this road reaches Caldeirão (where the road meets Rio Itacaiúnas), then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of this segment of road. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint of the road which leads to Caldeirão. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of this segment of road, 9989.67 m.), and measurement error (.01 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
