  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to approximately 3 km (midpoint of the offset range) along Abuña-Rio Branco road, BR-364, from the village of Abuña. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the road which connects Abuña, Rondônia to Rio Branco, Acre, BR-364. Beginning at the location where BR-364 meets the approximate geographic center of the village of Abuña, used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure approximately 3 km (3.00000 km) toward Rio Branco (westward). Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the offset along the road. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to find the linear extent of the village of Abuña by measuring from the approximate geographic center of the village to the nearest named place on the same side of Rio Madeira, village of El Borach, then halving this distance. Input coordinates, linear extent (0.0005 km), measurement error (4.02802 km), and distance precision (1 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. Added half of the offset range (3 km) to the uncertainty radius to account for the added uncertainty of the offset provided in a range format.
