  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Rio Japurá in Amazonas, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Japurá, a tributary of Rio Solimões. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the mouth of Rio Japurá (confluence of Rio Japurá and Rio Solimões) and the location where Rio Japurá becomes Rio Caqueta (at Brazilian - Colombian border), then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of Rio Japurá. Measured to approximately this halved distance from the mouth of Rio Japurá toward the center; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Input coordinates, linear extent (274570.0 m), and measurement error (.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
