  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Assumed the path ("track") mentioned in the locality description to be road BR-319, from observation of the direction of the road and because of the year of this collection: BR-319 was constructed after this collection occurred, and this route likely existed as a path prior to establishment of the road. Georeferenced to 3.5 km (half of the offset range) NNW along road BR-319 from the airstrip of Boca do Acre in Mun. Boca do Acre, Amazonas. Used Google Earth and Google Maps - Earth View to locate the airstrip of Boca do Acre. Beginning at the intersection of BR-319 and the road which leads to the airstrip, used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure approximately 3.5 km (3.5 km) in the north northwesterly direction along BR-319; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the offset coordinates. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear tenet of the starting location, the airstrip, by measuring from the approximate geographic center of the airstrip to the farthest extent of the airstrip area. Input coordinates, linear extent (.89972 km), measurement error (.050 km), and distance precision (1 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. Added half of the uncertainty range (2.5 km) to the offset radius to encompass the added uncertainty of the offset provided in a range format.
