Dominican Republic. San Juan. Cordillera Central; Parque Nacional Jos del Carmen Ramírez, on trail between "Forestry House" (Caseta del Forestal) to Arroyo Palo de Cuello; above Los Fríos, on the jeep road from Arroyo Cano.

Habitat
On slope in pine forest. Moist montane forest (in ravines and some slopes) or moist Pinus occidentalis forest (on ridges and some slopes). Plants of moist montane forest, not along rivers or in pine forest (as the related Miconia sp. nov.). Common.

Description
Shrub to 4 m tall; inflorescence axes and hypanthia red; bracts red; petals white; stamens white, actinomorphic; leaves flacate, only primary vein impressed; fruits red (immature)-purple (sl. immature); wasps on flowers. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fertile.
