Location
Dominican Republic. Monseñor Nouel. Cordillera Central, SE of Bonao, Falcombridge Dominicana mine property (Loma Pequera area), at top of Loma Larga.

Habitat
Open forest of Pinus occidentalis. Small segment of natural forest at edge of area destroyed by mining operations; some nearby areas replanted with Casuarina and Cynodon. Occasional. On serpentine substrate. Soil is lateritic with 2% nickel and 20% iron.

Description
Shrub to 3 m tall; petals rose pink; stamens white; fruit purple to pale gray-blue; inflorescence bracts and new shoots reddish; leaves with red veins, sometimes entire abaxial surface reddish; lvs. flat to falcate, major veins impressed. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fruit.
