Description
Tree 10 m tall, the trunk 20 cm diam; bark grey, smooth, very shallow, longitudinally fissured, the older proximal bark is beginning to harden and separate from the cambium, the younger distal bark is still green and yellow striped. NYBG Accession Number: "698/59 A, Acer pennsylvanicum, PT, L, Politi" This tree is probably between 60 and 63 years old. It appears to have reached the end of its natural life as evidenced by the sloughing basal bark. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
