High elevation forest of Pinus occidentalis surrounding an open grassy meadow or savanna, with Lyonia tuerckheimii, L. heptamera, Gaultheria domingensis, M. sphagnicola, M. selleana, M. viscidula, Garrya fadyenii, Baccharis myrsinites, Rubus sp. In pine forest surrounding open savanna. Common.

Description
Shrub to 3.5 m tall; flowers (petals and stamens) white. Leaves smaller and more densely pubescent than on plants at lower elevations. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
