Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Serra dos Pacaás Novos in Mun. Nova Mamoré, Rondônia. Referred to Geonames.org website for location information of Serra dos Pacaás Novos (http://www.geonames.org/maps/google_-10.75_-64.25.html). Using the reference material and Google Maps - Satellite and Terrain Views, located the mountain range of Serra dos Pacaás Novos. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the total extent of the mountainous area (visible on Terrain View), then halved this distance to approximate the location of the geographic center of the mountain range. Measured to approximately this halved distance from one extreme of the mountainous area toward the center; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of Serra dos Pacaás Novos. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the mountain range. Input coordinates, linear extent (100165.0 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Defined Area).
