Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Assumed that this locality description omitted reference to road connecting the city of Capanema to the State of Maranhão, BR-22, in accordance with similar locality descriptions. The road previously known as BR-22 between the two localities is now BR-316, in accordance with Google Maps - Directions. Georeferenced to the junction of BR-316 and Rio Piría, which is located slightly northwest of km 90 (from Capanema toward Maranhão). Used Google Maps - Earth View to find the intersection of Rio Piría and BR-316. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the intersection, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent of the intersection by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the intersection. Input coordinates, linear extent (77.09 m), and measurement error (2.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Junction, Intersection, Crossing).
