Habitat
Found growing on damp to dry bare sand in an area where gravel is removed, the area is disturbed and is flat and smooth except where gravel is being mined. Valley Grassland.

Description
Small size plants. The plant is scattered in the area and it is not overly abundant. The large showy flowers are red-purple. Perennial, stems 5-15 dm. tall. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
