Windpruned ridge at continental divide and forest on lee slope (Pacific side). Very wet cloud forest.

Description
Stem cespitose with 3 to 4 trunks per plant, these 2 to 3 m. tall, 8 cm. diam; leaves well distributed along trunk for 1 m.; inflorescence interfoliar, erect, red; fruits green; leaf sheaths clasping and encircling stem. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
