  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the geographic center of Rio Curuçá in Amazonas, Brazil. Referred to Figure 1 of "Molecular epidemiology of hepatitis B virus among the indigenous population of the Curuçá and Itaquaí Rivers, Javari Valley, State of Amazonas, Brazil" for location information for Rio Curuçá (Costa, Cristóvão Alves da, & Kimura, Lucinete Okamura. 2012. Molecular epidemiology of hepatitis B virus among the indigenous population of the Curuçá and Itaquaí Rivers, Javari Valley, State of Amazonas, Brazil. Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 45(4), 457-462. Accessed: December 02, 2013, from http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0037-86822012000400008&lng=en&tlng=en.10.1590/S0037-86822012000400008). Using the reference map and Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Curuçá, a tributary of Rio Javari (synonymous with Rio Yavari). Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line beginning at the mouth of the river (confluence of Rio Curuçá and Rio Javari) to the source of the river (location where two unnamed rivers meet and form Rio Curuçá), then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of Rio Curuçá. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates, on the adjacent shore. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of Rio Curuçá, 133717.0 m.), and measurement error (1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. Coordinates are very nearby the confluence of Rio Curuçá and Rio Pardo.
