Habitat
Shrub forest dominated by Vaccinium corymbosum, Rhododendron periclymenoides, Rhododendron viscosum, Clethra alnifolia and Lyonia ligustrina. This shrub forest transitions from a freshwater marsh to a beech-maple mesic forest dominated by Quercus velutina, Fagus grandifolia, Betula lenta, Acer rubrum.

Description
Shrub 2 m tall, the stem 1.5 cm diam; bark brown, very finely, long fissured, not peeling; most flowers on most plants in bud, open corollas very small, white. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
