Habitat
Hemlock forest with some deciduous trees.

Description
Tree 24 m tall, the trunk ca 38 cm diam; bark ± smooth, pinkish/yellow with horizontal lenticels, cracking at the base; branches numerous, spreading, the bark lifting and curling somewhat along the cracks, but not peeling in numerous thin, curly sheets like Betula alleghaniensis; twigs reddish brown, leafy all the way to the branch axil, wintergreen aroma when scratched; leaves shiny glandular below. Numerous individuals of same form in various sizes occur along the edge of this bluff. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
