Specimen Notes

Label header, "Spruce. Musci Amazonici et Andini."; **Note on original arrangement and filing of NY specimens, barcodes 914002 - 914010: Nine NY specimens, barcodes 914002 - 914010, were filed in the Helicodontium type folder within a subfolder labeled "Helicodontium Tarapotense Spruce." (in ink) with "= H. tenuirostr[?] fide Mitten" penciled underneath. The nine specimens were mounted on two herbarium sheets. Two NY specimens, 914010 and 914009, were mounted together on one herbarium sheet and are both Spruce Musci Amazonici et Andini collections. On the second herbarium sheet seven NY specimens, barcodes 914002-914008, were mounted together with a Mitten Herbarium label reading, "Helicodontium tenuirostre Schw." A photocopy of the original herbarium sheet holding the seven specimens is included with each of the seven specimens and shows original specimen arrangement and herbarium sheet data. Possible type specimens of two different names, Helicodontium tenuirostre Schwägr. (specimen 914003) and Helicodontium tarapotense Spruce ex Müll. Hal. (specimens 914002, 914009), were included within the subfolder. Further, 914002 and 914003, possibly type specimens of different names, were mounted on the same sheet. The publication status of the species names and the correct type designation for each specimen is uncertain.**
