Note: [Annotation label attached to sheet by N.E. Brown] "Note: Shafer 8406, distributed as "Clidemia cubensis, Cogn." is not at all like that plant."; "The Kew specimen of Schafer 8406 is not at all like Clidemia cubensis (Wright 1230, 1231)! The stem and leaves are thinly covered with stiff spreading hairs, and the leaves are green in Shafer 8406. But in C. cubensis the stem and leaves are very densely covered with rather soft rust-coloured hairs and the leaves are [fubrous?], with rust-colored nerves. Schafer 8831 is C. cubensis, but much less [fubrous?] than the type. N.E. Brown, Jan 10, 1922."; [Additional note on label by unspecified annotator, possibly N.L. Britton: "I wonder why.? It is the same as Wright 1230 = rubrinervis =cubensis."; "Determination confirmed by Cogniaux, June 1913."
