Beech-maple mesic forest.

Description
Herb growing no taller than ca 25 or 30 cm; sap orange; rhizome reddish; leaf abaxials glaucous; flowers bright yellow. There are a hundred or more plants of this species growing together in an area about 15 m × 15 m in moderate shade; not seen elsewhere in the Ice Pond Conservation Area. See Atha 7553 for fruiting, same population. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
