Location
United States of America. New York. Bronx Co. The New York Botanical Garden, SE section of the Garden, ca 20 m east of the Bronx River and ca 230 m N of Pelham Parkway/Fordham Road/US.

Habitat
Rocky outcrop east and parallel to the Bronx River. This area has been fallow for at least 15 years and consists of mostly young native trees and exotic shrubs; Carex pennsylvanica is abundant here.

Description
Tree 5 m tall, the trunk 5 cm diam; bark dark brown, smooth, striped above like Acer pennsylvanicum, but light and dark grey instead of light and dark green; emerging leaves with bronze cast; twigs, petioles and pedicels with bronze or reddish cast; petals white, to ca 1.5 cm long (several flowers measured with a ruler in situ). It is not evident whether this tree is planted or spontaneous. There are a few others around of about this size. However, the species is quite common in various uncultivated sites throughout the Garden. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
