Dominican Republic. San Juan. Cordillera Central; Parque Nacional Jos del Carmen Ramírez, on trail between "Forestry House" (Caseta del Forestal) to Arroyo Palo de Cuello; above Los Fríos, on the jeep road from Arroyo Cano.

Habitat
Moist montane forest (in ravines and some slopes) or moist Pinus occidentalis forest (on ridges and some slopes). Plants of moist montane forest, not along rivers or in pine forest (as the related Miconia sp. nov.). Common.

Description
Shrub to 2 m tall, especially in ravine forests; flower buds white, new growth reddish; leaves with impressed veins. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.
