Patches of cloud forest with Miconia, Weinmannia, Persea, Baccharis, Citharexylum, Coccoloba, Lobelia, Myrsine, and Begonia. Common.

Shrub to ca. 2.5 m tall. Sterile. Young shoots red-purple. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.
