Veracruz: road from Las Vigas to Tatatila, ca. 3 km from
the railroad tracks, sitio El Bordo. 2330 m. 97° 07'W,
19° 40'N.
Secondary vegetation with Buddleia and Alnus, formerly
Pinus patula/Quercus crassifolia/Cupresssus benthami
forest. Plants 1-2 (-3) m tall, slender, tips of main
culms becoming viny and these scrambling and climbing in
trees and shrubs, culms to 0.5 cm diameter. Rhizomes
leptomorph. Branching initially intravaginal with the
branches erect, then the sheaths falling. Usually only 3
subsidiary branches/node, the branches eventually bending
away from the culm. Culm leaves with blades more or less
cordate, erect, articulated, and deciduous. N.v.
"camalote."
