    steep slope with outcropping limestone; semideciduous moist forest; prominent species at this site: Amyris sp, Plumeria sp, Comocladia sp, Bursera simaruba, Manilkara sp, Clusia sp, Metopium browneii, Celtis sp, Anthurium schlechtendalianum, Selaginella sp, Adiantum tenerum, Anemia adiantifolia, Gausia maya, Vitex gaumeri, Pedilanthus tithymiloides.

    Tree or shrub, ca 2.5 m tall; stems brittle; older stems grey, tuberculate, twigs and petioles reddish; leaves patent or slightly pendent, blades chartaceous, odor when crushed spicy or fishy, the adaxials lustrous, the abaxials lighter green; spikes erect, when young lime green, turning yellow, then green again in fruit, scales more or less deltate or orbicular, the margins ciliate; fruits in distinct bands, sunken most of length, the styles more or less sessile, black.
