  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the point at 1000 m elevation closest to the hill called Serra Sao Luiz (or Serra de São Luiz do Purunã) near the town of São Luiz do Purunã, on the border between Mun. Campo Largo and Mun. Balsa Nova, Parana. Using Geonames.org, found the town called São Luiz do Purunã. Using Google Maps - Explore View, found several geo-tagged photos in the vicinity of the town making specific reference to a place called Serra Sao Luiz at approximately 1000 -1100 m elevation. Using Google Maps - Terrain View & What's Here tool, found coordinates (final) for the point at 1000 m elevation closest to the position of the two geo-tagged photos featuring the name Serra de São Luiz do Purunã (-25.455785, -49.703313). Using Google Maps - Measure Distance tool, estimated linear extent by measuring from the selected final coordinates to the farthest point at 1000 m elevation on the same side of the valley/slope (-25.437385, -49.677729). Input linear extent (3107.0 m), coordinate precision (0.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Defined area).
