    Juniper zone. Juniperus osteosperma with abundant mountain-mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius). Grasses and forbs sparse. Aristida fendleriana, Agropyron spicatum, Poa secunda, Stipa comata, Lomatium, Cryptantha celosioides, Gutierrezia sarothrae (broom snakeweed), Phlox hoodii, and Lappula redowskii with some shrubs: Artemisia tridentata and Chrysothamnus nauseosus. Much bare sandstone rock; soil is shallow.
