Habitat
Plants were found in both mucky clayey substrate in the middle of a trickling stream, as well as along the roadside in a more disturbed setting and deep, dryer substrate.

Description
This is a large robust plant with thick stalks. The plants are tuberous with large robust tubers presents on roots about 5 inches below the surface. Buds are bright blue. The flowers are robust and waxy, and a pale blue color, quite different from the purple D. thyrsiflora. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
