tween the Balsas & Pamafba Rivers. Ca. 35 ka south
of LOBftPO. Ca. 7*23*S. ¿5*7-8'V. Next to housa at
"Veadoa*. (About U km. vest of main house of Ifes.
Horros.) Alt* 250-300 nu
Main vegetation types of regions (l)"chapada", decid-
uous to evergreen xeromorphic tree woodland ("cerra-
dao") on tops & sides of sandstone plateaus & some
low flat land; (2)"tabuleirol,> deciduous low-tree
woodland (another type of "cerradSa*) on upper psrfcs
of rolling terrain; (Sjttafcte*# dosed, deciduous to
evergreen forest« in galleries) (^"caatinga", open
deciduous forest on lower parts of rolling terrain;
(5)"varjao”, scattered deciduous forest-type trees
on low flat land; (6)*eoeal", dense beba$u palm
groves on Paraaiba River terraoe & some brook val-
ley«« Dry season 4»-5 months with almost no rain;
brooks intexmittent. Annual fires & cattle grafting
in all areaa* Sc*e spots with danse secondary cha-
pada scrub ("carraseo”); much tabuleiro cleared to
fexa grassy pasture; such nata, caatinga & varjao
in shifting cultivation.
