Habitat
gallery forest on lower (present) floodplain of the Blackwater River, with Taxodium distichum, Platanus occidentalis, Liquidambar styraciflua, Carpinus caroliniana, Quercus, Carya and Betula; very sandy alluvium.

Description
Tree 18 m tall, the trunk ca 35 cm diam; bark grey/brown, peeling in long vertical strips; foliage just now leafing out, glutinous. Juglans odor weak.
