    gallery forest on lower (present) floodplain of the Blackwater River, with Taxodium distichum, Platanus occidentalis, Liquidambar styraciflua, Carpinus caroliniana, Quercus, Carya and Betula; very sandy alluvium.

    Tree 4 m tall, leaning, the stem ca 10 cm diam; bark greenish/brown above, below brown and scaly, the spines straight; fruit green.
