Habitat
Dune forest with elements of Maritime Forest and Southeastern Swamp Forest; dominants include Pinus taeda, Quercus falcata, Quercus virginiana, Persea palustris, Liquidambar styraciflua, Ilex opaca and Nyssa sylvatica.

Description
Tree 9 m tall, the trunk swollen at the base, ca 20 cm dbh; bark dark grey, furrows longitudinal, shallow, the ridges braided, ± flat, somewhat scaly; leaves bright green.
