    Nicaragua. Estelí. Close to the road running NW from Esteli towards San Juan de Limay, a few km. beyond the small village of Regadio near the small settlement of El Pino or about 24 km. NNW of Esteli.

  • Habitat

    Scattered in pastures with Quercus, Acacia pennatula and Mimosa in an area of highly degraded oak forest. Locally common.

  • Description

    Small multiple-stemmed, branchy tree with a spreading crown to 4 m. high. Bark mid greenish-brown, blotched grey with lichen and speckled with light brown lenticels, inner bark bright green. Flowers in erect terminal racemes, opening acropetally. Buds mid olive green. Petals bright yellow, the standard mottled bright orange at base, densely coated with glands on rear and covered in white hairs at the base, anthers dark olive green, stigma bright mif green. Leaves discolorous, dark bottle green, slightly glossy above, paler below. Unripe pods bright green, densely covered in glands exuding reddish nectar makin pods sticky.
