  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Rio Cachorrinho;" instead, georeferenced to the approximate geographic midpoint of the parent river, Rio Cupixi. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Cupixi, a tributary of Rio Amapari, in Amapá. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the mouth of Rio Cupixi (confluence of Rio Cupixi and Rio Amapari) to the source of the river (approximated through the dense forest cover), then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of the river. Measured to approximately this halved distance from the mouth of the river toward the center; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint of the river, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the river, 38555.5 m), and measurement error (.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
