  • Description

    Pileus 2.5-10 cm broad, depressed to deeply depressed, dry, squamulose scaly, with dark brown squamules, lighter brown between squamules, rarely with confluent pilei, white at incurved margin. Flesh white to gray, with pungent odor, tough, unchanging, with unpleasant taste, but not bitter or farinaceous. Hymenophore spinose, decurrent, with short, white teeth, and a pale dull yellow showing in between. Stipe 4-9 cm long, 6-24 mm broad, tapering downward, dry, glabrous, pale brown to dark brown, white basal mycelium; interior as in pileus, but a greenish gray color at base.
