Description
Pileus 3-6 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, subtomentose to appressed subtomentose, dark red to red, somewhat rugulose in areas, becoming areolate. Flesh yellow, bluing with exposure, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnexed to rarely subdecurrent, yellow, bluing with exposure, xerocomoid, up to 9 mm long, with pores red, rarely yellow with some red tones, slightly radially elongate, bluing when bruised. Stipe 3-5 cm long, 4-10 mm broad, equal, strict or curved, dry, coarsely pruinose to subsquamulose to fibrillose, lemon yellow at apex, red to dark red below, yellow at base, bluing with handling, with interior yellow, staining blue. NH4OH: neagtive on all parts. Spores short fusoid to ellipsoid, smooth.
