Jn small area of a few hecteires of true cerrado
vegetation» an open scrub 2—4 m tall with a few ‘
trees to 5m. On bidght reddish-brown latosol
several meters deep over sandstone. This cerrado
contains Stryphnodendron, Piptadenia, Byrsonima vei—
bascifolia, Erythroxylum, Plathymenia, Bombacaceae,
Didyr.opanax, Zeyheria, etc. & dense tallgrass ground
layer. (This small cerrado area ia the only one we
have seen on the Serra do Cip6 planalto. All the
rest of the planalto has very shallow lithosol (0-3
dm deep) over itacolomite quartzite (with some
mudstone & quartz) and supports natural rocky campo
or, in some areas of rock outcrops, dense squarrose
scrub, besides narrow gallery forests.)
