Large tufted perennial; stems 50 - 70 (100) cm, glabrous; leaf glabrous, smooth or scabridulous in upper parts; ligules very short; panicle lax, 8 - 20 cm long; spikelets ovate - lanceolate; glumes 3 - 4,5 mm, green with hyaline margins, acuminate, lower.
