    Rhizomatous evergreen shrubs; stems simply branched, striate, 20 to 50 cm tall, diam. 0,5 cm; cortex brownish, cladodes sclerophyllous, broadly ovate-acuminate or lanceolate-acuminate, spine-tipped; flowers adaxial, perianth greenish; fruit red berry, wit.
