Specimen Notes

Annotation mounted on herbarium sheet, "Syntypes of Polytrichum aristiflorum Mitt. J. Linn. Soc. Bot. 12: 620. 1869. =P. juniperinum Det. A. Slavick 2.v.1984". There appear to be four duplicate specimens contained in one packet. Outer specimen packet reads, "Lechler 2281 San Gavan, in rupibus humidus Peru". Packet within, containing all four duplicates, has label appearing to read, "W. Lechler pl. peruviana. E.R.F.Hohenamacker. 2281. Polytrichum juniperifolium W. P. Schimp. - 1 [?] In rupibus humidus ps. S. Govan. Jul. m. 1854.". Within this packet are two specimens mounted on herbarium paper, stamped "Herbarium of 1906 William Mitten" and marked in pen "2281" (NY specimen barcodes 913021 and 913023). Two additional specimens (NY specimen barcodes 913022 and 912986) have labels appearing to read, "W. Lechler 2281 pl. peruviana. E. R. F. Hohenamaker. 2281. Polytrichum juniperiforme W. P. Schiimp. - 1[?] San Govan in rupibus humidis. Jul. m. 1854." NY specimen with barcode 912986 has label indicating "Herbarium of A. Vigener Presented by Andrew Carnegie, Esq., 1901."
