    In a small valley on rocky loam (Hurlkbut-Deadwood-Mariposa complex, 2 to 30 percent sklopes, Hurlbut = fine-loamy, mixed mesic Dystric Xerochrepts; Deawood = loany-skeletal, mixed mesic Dystric Lithic Xerochrepts; Mariposa = fine-loamy, mixed, mesic Ruptic-Lithic-Xeroichreptic Haploxerults). In an old-growth forest. With Abies concolor, Amelanchier alnifolia, Apocynum sp., Calocedrus decurrens, Chamebatia foliosa, Chimaphila umbellata, Cornus nuttallii, Goodyera oblongifolia, Lithocarpus densifolius var. echinoides, Pinus lambertiana, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Pteridum aquilinum, Pyrola sp., Quercus kelloggii, Quyercus vaccinifolia and Symphoricarpos sp. Rare (only 5 others seen).

    Tree, 200 ft. x 10 ft. Tree, 200 ft. tall, trunk diameter 10 ft. This individual is the "Pershing Tree." Twigs and cones fallen, collected off the ground. Phenology of specimen: Fertile, Fruit.
