Habitat
Gowing in an open woodlanmd/savanna. With Abies concolor, Achiilea millefolium, Pinus ponderosa, Prunus sp., Pteridium aquilinum, Quercus garryana and Salix sp. Rare, more common a few miles further East. In loam over schist (Hulls gravelly loam, 30 to 50 percent slopes; fine-loamy, mixed m,esic, Typic Haploxerolls).
