Brazil. Maranhão. Lorêto Mun. "Ilha de Balsas" region, between the Balsas & Parnaíba Rivers. Ca. 18 km south of main house of Fazenda "Morros", ca. 45 km south of Lorêto.

Habitat
In open, grassy "lagôa", a treeless, shrubless, lawnlike area of ca. 1 hectare, set in middle of vast arboreal "chapada", on highest part of plateau top. (Treelessness apparently due to local temporary waterlogging after rains.) [See label for further habitat description.].

Description
Small herb, fls. 2 1/2 cm diam. Petals yellow, base light brown, very base light green; filaments lt green, anthers golden-yellow, style white, stigmas golden-yellow. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
