On cool, damp, shaded N facing Cambrian sandstone cliffs. Shaded by Tsuga canadensis, Betula alleghaniensis, with Taxus canadensis, Adoxa moschatellina, Bryoxiphium norvegicum, Mnium punctatum, Tetraphis pellucida, Dicranella heteromalla and Conocephalum conicum.
