Puerto Rico. Luquillo National Forest, at (and near) peak of El Yunque; at end of Forest Road #10.

Habitat
Dwarf moist montane forest surrounded by clouds-fog, much storm damage visible. Only in open areas. With Tetrazygia urbanii, Miconia pachyphylla, M. pycnoneura, M. racemosa, M. sintenisii, M. foveolata, Mecranium latifolium, Henriettea squamulosa, Nepsera aquatica. Locally common.

Description
Shrub to 1.5 m. tall; inflorescence axes, hypanthia, calyx all bright red-pubescent; petals white, but in bud with a very slight red tinge at tips; anthers white (actinomorphic); veins of leaves all impressed above. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
