  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximated northern shore of Ilha Marrecao, an island in Rio Solimões, in Mun. Manacapuru, Amazonas. Used Google Maps - Earth View to locate Ilha Marrecao. Located the approximate geographic center of Ilha Marrecao. Determined the midpoint between what may be considered the northeast and northwest shore of the island; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate northern shore of the island (riverbank of Rio Solimões). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the area that may be considered the northern shore of the island (between northeast and northwest). Input coordinates, linear extent (4840.0 m), and measurement error (2.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Defined Area).
