  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Is it impossible to determine from the locality description whether the information written as "Ca. 10 km de Serra Grande em direção a Uruçuca" is meant to describe the general location of the Parque Estadual da Serra do Conduru (an entrance to which is found near that location), or the exact place of collection (ex. 10 km along the road from Serra Grande). This georeference was performed according to the first possibility, because that option has a larger uncertainty radius and is guaranteed to encapsulate both possibilities. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the Parque Estadual da Serra do Conduru, in Mun. Uruçuca, Bahia. Using Google Maps - Map View, located the park and an outline of its approximate boundaries. Using Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps), measured the total extent of the park, and then halved that distance to approximate the location of the geographic center of the park by measuring to this calculated distance from one extreme towards the center of the park. Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs found the coordinates for the approximate geographic center of the Parque Estadual da Serra do Conduru. Used the linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the city) as the uncertainty radius.
