At one point in his career, Ansel Augustus Tyler, a botanist, served on the faculty of the University of Arizona in Tucson. His name is on a biographical list posted by the university covering faculty names onward from 1867 (http://www.library.arizona.edu/speccoll/documents/UABio.pdf). NYBG #01050526, NYBG#01050535, and several related collections of type specimens of Pleurage arizonensis Griffiths and Pleurage erostrata Griffiths refer to "Tyler" as collector of the primary specimens in Tucson in Jan 1900. Annotation slips by an unknown preparer notes collector's initials as "A. H. Tyler." Although it isn't confirmed as of 3 Nov 2008, the collector may in fact be A. A. Tyler, considering his position in the natural sciences and his physical location in Tucson at the time of the collection.
