from email from Joe Kirkbride, dated 8 Jan 2015:
Today, Friday, 8 January 2016, I am retiring from the USDA Agricultural Research Service after 31.5 years with the agency. My total service with the Federal government is 38.5 years including my military service and time at the Smithsonian. The past 8.5 years at the U.S. National Arboretum have been wonderful. The research has been interesting, and the staff of the Arboretum has been a great group of people to work with.
I have been in contact with the Chairman of the Department of Botany, Smithsonian Institution, and he assured me that I will have a working space in the Department. I will return to my first research love, the Neotropical Rubiaceae. I have several manuscripts under way now, and I hope to do two, large floristic treatments for the Rubiaceae of Colombia and Brasil.
As of Monday, 11 January 2016, my working address will be:

My wife and I will continue to live in the same home that we have been in since 1984 in Silver Spring, Maryland:

I do not know what I would do with all of my books if we moved out of the house.
I am looking forward to a happy and productive retirement.
